Many companies are entering with foldable phones, yes, no such plan of Apple has come out so far but I am talking about Android, be it Samsung or Oppo, Vivo, or Oneplus, Oneplus Open which is the first foldable phone of the company and it was launched last year. By the way, in India this phone is available for Rs 1,39,999 for 16GB + 512GB variant which is expensive for me. But maybe not for other Indians, that's why this phone not only got a lot of attention but also gave a good competition to Samsung's Z Fold 5. Everyone was expecting that this year we will get to see Oneplus Open 2, that is, the second foldable phone of Oneplus, but many leaked news shows that we will have to wait for another year.
Although the company has not given any such information about this new phone, but many things cannot be hidden, I mean some information about this new foldable phone is leaking in the market and we will know all those things in this blog.
Gone are the days of small, underperforming batteries; we are now in the era of large powerhouses with OnePlus flagship devices. Take a look at the OnePlus 12R, the OnePlus Nord 4, or the OnePlus 12— all equipped with a battery hovering around 5500mAh capacity. The most recent launch, OnePlus Ace 3 Pro, boasts a substantial 6100mAh battery; an expectation that is likely to carry forward to the OnePlus 13 as well. Yet more exciting news unfolds: recent leaks by Digital Chat Station suggest that the upcoming foldable— OnePlus Fold 2— will raise the bar even higher with a massive 6,000mAh battery capacity. If it is true, then the OnePlus will rule the market as placing such battery capacity in a foldable is yet to be seen. Such revelations fuel further speculations within the tech realm; whispers now circulating hint at the OnePlus Open 2 undergoing a rebranding process to emerge as Oppo Find N5. New names may change perceptions but let us wait to see if they can redefine standards too. If the rumours are true, then the upcoming OnePlus Open 2 might see competition with other high-end devices like the vivo X Fold 3 Pro and the Honor Magic V3.
The OnePlus Open, launched last year, came in two color variants: Emerald Dusk with a matte glass design and Vulture Black with a leather-like finish. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, featuring a 7.82-inch 2K AMOLED inner display and a 6.31-inch 2K AMOLED cover screen. The OnePlus Open also includes a Hasselblad-branded triple-rear camera setup, earning it recognition as one of the best foldable smartphones worldwide by the tech community.
Next year, the OnePlus Open 2 will get even more high-tech. Rumor has it that it will be a folding phone featuring Qualcomm's expected Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor and OnePlus' OxygenOS 15 software based on Android 15. The most recent OnePlus Nord 4 used OxygenOS 14, so we don't have any details on OxygenOS 15 features yet.
Moreover, the handset is said to arrive with a refined hinge mechanism that should also be lighter than its predecessor. The new hinge should be lighter and slimmer than its predecessor, the OnePlus Open. The rumors suggest that the top model would feature an ultra-thin folding display and more high-resolution cover glass on the screen, with a report claiming "super flat to your eyes glasses in touch less a crease.
The leaker has also suggested that the OnePlus Open 2 might arrive with a periscope camera lens. Of course, it bears noting that these are still rumors; nothing has been announced by the design team at large. Lastly, the OnePlus Open 2 is expected to feature larger and improved cameras that would exceed those on original OnePlsu Neo. Foldable phone cameras have come a long way over the last couple years, but they are still not on par with what flagship camera sensors offer.
There are no leaks about its price yet, but we can make an educated guess. If OnePlus opts for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the OnePlus Open 2 likely won't see a significant price increase. However, if they choose the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, you might have to pay considerably more. Several tipsters have suggested that the next-gen chipset could be 30% more expensive than its predecessor.
