Do you know that you may soon see some changes in the web version of Netflix? We have not received any report that is completely reliable about what those changes will be, but we are getting two such reports which say that Netflix is thinking of doing something with the download button of the Windows version.
Both these reports are completely contradictory to each other, however it is confirmed that Netflix is going to bring some new changes to the Windows app.
Our first reports suggest that Netflix's Windows app users will not be able to watch offline once the update arrives, meaning the download button will likely be removed. If those reports come to fruition, this would be a significant letdown for customers who watch content on their laptops (which, let's be honest, is a lot of people).
In a post by Artem Russakovskii on X/Twitter, it has been told that an alert is coming on the Netflix Windows app according to which offline watching is likely to be disabled, that alert is something like this in Hindi
Coming soon: A new Windows app experience. The update includes access to live events, compatibility with ad-supported plans, and more! Downloads will no longer be supported, but you can continue to watch TV shows and movies offline on a supported mobile device.
You can see here that the alert clearly states that Netflix downloads will now be unsupported on Windows. Below you can also see the screenshot that was posted by Artem.
Along with this report, we have also received another report according to which no such change is going to happen. Though the news is very bad, it is possible that the first report is wrong and this report is correct.
The next report we got is also on X/Twitter and this report is posted on X by Trevor and like the previous one, a screenshot of the alert is shared but there is no information related to the download on it which means according to this Netflix is not tampering with the downloads on the Windows app.
It's hard to say if Netflix is actually removing downloads from the Windows app, or if one of these two might have encountered an error, and maybe Artem's or Trevor's screenshot is wrong.
The report could not confirm whether Netflix plans to remove the download option from the Windows app. It is also possible that Netflix may also show this alert only to those who use the download feature. Commenting on the post, another user mentioned that they do not use downloads, so Netflix may skip that part of the alert for such users. The report says that Netflix is possibly conducting A/B testing to understand online reactions to the potential change.
This download feature of Netflix is very beneficial for travelers, especially those who do not have internet access.
Due to this feature we can download any show or movies to watch offline but if it is disabled we will not be able to do this.
After seeing these two reports, users have mixed reactions, those who used to watch offline must be understanding this pain. Anyway, this would be a good time to contact the Netflix team and request them not to tamper with the download.
However, keep in mind that the news of any download being disabled is only from Windows, no such change has been reported on the phone, meaning mobile users can enjoy offline watching.
