Magnetic Wireless Charging with Qi2 for Android Devices in 2025

Qi2 wireless charging represents the next wave in wireless power technology, meaning faster and much more efficient. The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) showcased the technology for the first time during CES 2023, after which it rapidly changed the landscape of the industry. Apple also quickly embraced it, using its MagSafe technology to introduce this feature into its iPhone 12 and subsequent releases, which will place a new precedent for Android phones to follow.

Qi2 for Android Devices

The technology of Qi2 was first brought out in an upgrade to the existing wireless charging standard, known as Qi. This includes using a ring of magnets both at the charger end and on the device end, promoting better alignment and efficiency. This means that not only does the charging speed become faster, but so does the reliability and convenience of the process. Significantly, the WPC's announcement of CES 2025 follows the adoption of technology through Android devices, increasing both reach and influence.



Qi2 on iPhone and Android

Samsung has announced that its Galaxy devices will fully support Qi2 in 2025, but it didn't say which models would definitely be included. Still, a lot of people will likely speculate that the Galaxy S25 series is going to spearhead this phase. After all, the company is committed to being among the ones leading innovation and making available to their users the latest and most efficient technologies.


Google has also promised to support Qi2, which means that the future Pixel flagships will support this advanced wireless charging standard. The company is actively involved in developing the next iteration of the technology, which is Qi v2.2, and this would mean a more widespread adoption across different Android devices.


The WPC has introduced 'Qi2 Ready' certification to ensure there is a consistent, optimum experience. It ensures that smartphones equipped with Qi2 can realize the full efficiency of wireless charging, provided they use a special case that has a magnetic ring for alignment. The initiative is aiming at standardizing the user experience across brands and models.


The Impact of Qi2 on the Android Ecosystem

With the adoption of Qi2 by Samsung, Google, and other potential Android manufacturers, the landscape for wireless charging will change. Users can look forward to:
